2002 Miss UGA Pageant Information
The Miss University of Georgia Scholarship Pageant is sponsored annually by the Student Government Association and is a preliminary pageant for the Miss America Organization.
The Miss America Organization provides contestants with the opportunity to pursue their professional and educational goals through the awarding of monetary grants for education. The Organization is the single largest source of scholarship money for women in the entire world. Last year over $38 million in grants was available to young women at the local, state and national levels of the Pageant.
The Miss University of Georgia awards a total of $2,500 in scholarships to the top five finalists each year as well as a "People's Choice" scholarship based on audience contributions. The winner of the Miss University of Georgia Pageant will represent the University throughout the year at speaking and entertainment engagements and will compete for the title of Miss Georgia in Columbus, Georgia in June.
The Miss America judging system is unique in its ability to select individuals who represent the best of America's women; women who can be role models for other women and who care about their role and other women's roles in the world today.
Miss University of Georgia, like Miss America, is a woman who has accomplished something meaningful and has the qualities it takes to be successful. Over the years, each Miss University of Georgia has spoken in her own way and time, to social issues, problems, personal values and interests, and is noted for significant individual contributions and career successes. And still, each Miss University of Georgia is a vibrant, concerned woman, accepting the challenges for today and possessing even more exciting dreams for tomorrow. The Dream of Miss America.
Each year contestants such as those involved in the Miss University of Georgia Pageant complete over 450,000 hours of community service for nearly 12,000 different causes and charities. Miss America herself travels over 20,000 miles each month and Miss Georgia travel about 48,000 miles annually in support of their platforms with speeches almost every day. They become a powerful voice which lends itself to all-American charities looking for advocacy, support and recognition.
The Miss University of Georgia Pageant/Miss America Organization helps turn dreams into reality. Interviewing skills, leadership skills, public speaking skills, and on-stage experience work to bring great new levels of confidence, discipline and a winning attitude. The Miss University of Georgia doesn't just applaud winner... it helps build winners.
